In the Community

Worthington Woman's Club has had the privilege of serving our community, both near and far, for 50 years.  We strive to strengthen our communities and enhance the lives of others.  Below are a few of the organizations that we have recently contributed to.

Central Virginia Food Bank

FeedMore's Central Virginia Food Bank brings hunger relief to 31 counties and five cities in our region by acquiring needed foods and distributing these items to neighbors in need.  Through targeted programs designed to address specific hunger challenges, they work to ensure that Central Virginia’s most vulnerable populations—children, families and seniors—have access to a reliable source of healthy nutrition.

Chesterfield/Colonial Heights Christmas Mother
The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother program is a nonprofit, charitable organization that was established in 1972 by Miss Lucy Corr.  The program’s sole purpose is to assist with the special needs of families that are in need during the holiday season.

Coats for Kids
Puritan Cleaners collect coats of all sizes every November during their Coats For Kids campaign. They average over 15,000 coats collected every year with nearly 400,000 collected over the years.  We wash and repair them and then deliver to the Salvation Army for distribution to Central Virginia’s needy families.  With nearly 400,000 coats collected over the year.

Chesterfield/Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry
Many of CCHASM’s clients are women, who through emergency situations, find they must begin or return to work.  CCHASM provides “office appropriate” clothing in the way of suits, pants, blouses, shirts and shoes, to women who need either interview or work attire.

Sew Much Comfort
SMC is the only military support charity providing
FREE adaptive clothing (velcro closures) to replace the ill-fitting hospital gown. Adaptive clothing accommodates their medical devices and conditions, providing ease of use, increases personal independence and minimizes the visual impact of their injuries. Their adaptive garments allow injured service members to wear normal appearing clothing as they recover from their injuries.

Safe Harbor
Safe Harbor offers comprehensive services for survivors of sexual and/or intimate partner violence including: 24 hour helpline, children/youth services, community education and training, counseling, court advocacy, emergency shelter, and hospital accompaniment. Their team collaborates with survivors to provide support, education and referral information to help survivors meet their goals.

United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF)
UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential.
